While EC Section 48000(b) allows a child to be admitted early on a case-by-case basis, districts offering this option to families would be wise to have local governing board-adopted criteria by which students are accepted. These children may not begin school at the beginning of the school year, but they must wait until their fifth birth date occurs ( EC Section 48000).
